High-quality School Age Care
The mission of Minneapolis Kids is to provide high-quality child care services for families during periods when students are not involved in regular school programs. The program offers a safe, nurturing, educational, and recreational experience where children are encouraged to pursue interests, develop friendships, independence, and confidence.
Minneapolis Kids is a year-round, fee-based program administered by MPS Community Education at sites throughout the district, with programming primarily for youth in Grades PreK-5. Generally, sites are open Monday-Friday, 6:30 am-6 pm. See details below for various components.

School Year Care
School Age Care for Grades PreK-5 is offered Before and After School and on Non-School Days. Locations and rates vary by component and site. Please see program information for details.
- Times (The program follows the MPS calendar):
- Before School: Monday-Friday, 6:30 am-Bell Time
- After School: Monday-Friday, Bell Time-6 pm
- Non-School Days: 6:30 am-6 pm (Minneapolis Kids is closed for federal holidays and professional development)

School Year Registration Process
Before/After School and Non-School Days are offered as separate contracts. Contract requests are accepted in the order they are received and as space is available. Please allow 10 business days for processing. See program information for eligibility, rates and fees.
Before and After School (2-day/week minimum per component)
Please call our main office at 612-668-3890 to inquire about open spots for the 2026-27 school year.
Enrollments & Schedule Changes in Arux
Beginning Sunday, August 9 through Sunday, September 6:
- If you are requesting a new enrollment during this time period, your child’s start date for the school year may be delayed until September 21, depending on site capacity.
- If you have an approved contract for the school year, you will not be able to make schedule change requests during this time period. This gives our sites the chance to plan staffing for the beginning of the school year. If you would like changes to be in effect by the first day of school, please request them before August 9. Otherwise, the next available date for Arux changes will be September 7 and may take up to 2 weeks to go into effect.

Minneapolis Kids Jrs. (PreK Full-Day Care)
Minneapolis Kids Jr. offers a nurturing, safe, educational, and recreational experience specifically designed for 4-year-old children entering kindergarten the following school year. Our Pre-K curriculum is implemented through guided instruction and features learning stations designed to prepare young learners for their educational journey.
- Times (The program follows the MPS calendar): Monday-Friday, 6:30 am-6 pm

Jrs. Registration Process
Registration opened Friday, January 30, 2026, at 7 am. Contract requests are accepted in the order they are received and as space is available. Please allow 10 business days for processing. Full-day care only. See program information for rates and fees.

Summer Care
Minneapolis Kids summer programs provide youth with a variety of choice-based activities designed specifically for their grade. Unique programs are available for youth entering Grades K-4 and 5-7 (Grades 5-7 programs offered at select locations).
- Dates & Times: June 15-August 26 (Closed June 19 & July 3)
- Monday-Thursday: 7 am-6 pm & Friday: 7 am-5:30 pm

Financial Assistance
Minnesota's Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP)
Minnesota's Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) helps families pay for child care so parents can pursue work or school. To see if you qualify for this assistance, call 612-348-5937, or apply online at mnbenefits.mn.gov.
Rate Assistance
Loring, Pratt and Webster Minneapolis Kids locations: reduced before and after school component rates are available for families that do not qualify for MN Child Care Assistance but are experiencing financial hardship. Rates are determined by school bell times. Call our main office at 612-668-3890 for assistance.
Transportation
Minneapolis Kids sites are conveniently located throughout the city with programming designed to meet the needs of children and families. MPS bus transportation can be arranged between your child’s school and the Minneapolis Kids site. Families are responsible for making these arrangements by contacting the child's home school office or by submitting a Save Your Seat form on the MyRide app.
