Minneapolis Community Education Presents RENT

Minneapolis Community Education Presents RENT

Minneapolis Community Education is proud to announce its upcoming production of Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, RENT, taking the stage at South High School (3131 19th Ave. S) from July 10-19, 2026.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of RENT’s Broadway premiere. Following its sensational debut, the original production received 10 Tony Award nominations, winning four, including Best Musical. Three decades later, its powerful message remains as resonant as ever.

Set in the East Village of New York City, RENT is about falling in love, finding your voice, and living for today. Based loosely on Puccini’s La Bohème, it follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. How these young bohemians negotiate their dreams, loves, and conflicts provides the narrative thread to this groundbreaking musical.

Join us for performances that showcase a talented cast, ensemble, and community musicians from the Twin Cities area, and celebrate love, resilience, and the power of community.
