Every week, our schools open their doors to the community for Early Childhood Family Education classes, Adult Basic Education and enrichment courses, and before & afterschool youth programs.

That’s Community Education!

Community Education provides lifelong learning by building authentic relationships through high-quality, accessible, and community-driven programs. This National Community Education Day, we celebrate the learners, families, instructors, and staff who make our programs thrive.

From little ones in ECFE to adults pursuing new hobbies and youth exploring their interests, our spaces transform school buildings into community hubs, offering an opportunity for everyone to learn and connect. 

Each year, Community Education reaches thousands of learners across Minneapolis. Over the past school year, MPS Community Education had impressive numbers across the board: 

• 13,065 youth and adult enrichment participants
• 2,468 adult learners advancing their education goals
• 2,150 students served through Minneapolis Kids during the school year
• 1,183 more students in summer care
• 5,518 youth enrolled in afterschool enrichment
• 3,207 in Super Summer programs
• 2,145 children and caregivers connecting through Early Childhood Family Education
• 125 student parents supported through Teen Parent Services
• 3,622 children completing early childhood screening
• 606,946 hours of school and community space used for learning
• 330 dedicated Community Education staff and instructors
